Abstract:
After living on my own for over a decade, I returned to live in my childhood home only to
discover a family that remembers the girl I once was, but refuses to accept the woman I have
become. The need to cope with and understand this disconnect led to the creation of a series of
photographs that visually expresses the experiences of living with my family. Choreographing
My Past is a self-reflective photo series. A document of the life of an African-American family is
created to analyze issues dealing with hope, acceptance, illness, and healing, allowing me to gain
a deeper understanding of my family and myself.
