Abstract:
This thesis examines the effects of cinematic cutscenes on player immersion within videogames. Emphasis is placed on determining how cutscenes might hinder or enhance player immersion. Solutions are proposed as to how game designers might address the story-gameplay dissonance caused by cutscenes while still maintaining the emotional engagement they instill in players.
