Abstract:
The notion of a digital library stems from congested computer usage in traditional libraries. As traditional print material is increasingly made digital, why couldn’t a library cater to just that material as the growing rate of digital information will soon overtake traditional print? By offering different types of technology to cater to different user needs as well as research needs, a dynamic building could be created offering users many options to fi t themselves or the research they are conducting. Not only will the digital library serve as a cutting edge library, but also a communal space in the heart of Washington, D.C. Libraries are becoming less library like and more community based, people use them for meetings, classes, relaxation, and research.
Abstract:
The design process of the library focused on the technology in the building, the users of the building, environmental aspects, as well as interior qualities. This allowed for flexibility in the floor plans which allowed for shifts in technology and user groups, making the building timeless and able to withstand the fast paced evolution of technology.
