Abstract:
People spend 95% of their lives indoors. Yet, designers tend to give second priority to the fact that most people are
visual and tactile learners that develop their perception of their space through their senses. Using conscious and subconscious
actions the brain develops throughout our lives ways to determine what is pleasing to the mind. Designer’s decisions manipulate
how we experience a space and how they can affect us through our human response to each space.
The goal of this thesis is to find the gap between architecture and interior design, while changing the way architecture
is considered. The focus of this thesis project will address several design issues:
-An interior focus on the user and how they are affected by their environment
- How users can shape the environment
-How designers can create a better environment that influences the users
Once researching how people and their environments affect each other, a boutique hotel was designed to showcase an ideal
interior condition that will appeal to the users. Then this will help inform the desired exterior context that will appeal to passing
pedestrians and the surrounding context.
