Abstract:
This thesis looks at the change of the horror formula as it applies to comics and what that change signifies in writing horror as well as what horror means to the modern audience. There has been a steady decline of horror publications in comics within the past twenty years. In order for the horror genre to regain popularity once more, a technical and a thematic consideration must be made. First, horror comics must return to a shorter narrative structure and a more horror-oriented use of cinematic technique must be employed. Second, the subject matter for horror comics should reach those elements that generate fear in contemporary culture.
