Abstract:
This
thesis
highlights
the
role
of
women
in
television
and
how
female
characters
have
evolved
from
the
traditional
roles
of
a
supporting
cast
to
fully
dominating
the
television
screen
as
independent,
career-oriented,
leading
heroines.
However,
the
arena
where
women
are
still
taking
a
hit
is
the
world
of
sports.
The
aim
of
this
thesis
is
to
show
that
although
women
are
rightfully
seeking
jurisdiction
of
their
identities
as
women
in
society,
the
next
area
to
trail
blaze
is
the
male-dominated
field
of
sports
where
men,
albeit
players,
analysts,
coaches,
or
referees,
carry
the
ultimate
knowledge
and
authority.
