Abstract:
This thesis explores style as one of the key considerations of mixed media animation. It
specifically focuses on the intentional use of conflicting visual styles to create stylistic
dissonance, questioning the mainstream policy of avoiding such visual conflict. The aim of this
thesis is to demonstrate that such stylistic dissonance can be used as a narrative tool in mixed
media animated films and explore how to do so effectively. This is done primarily through an
analysis of mixed media films employing this approach.
