Abstract:
This thesis project examines a community in upstate New York and the contributions and
influences it had over industry, globalization and technology. Through the blending of
contemporary and historic images the project creates a visual narrative of a century of growth
and decline. Ideas central to the creation of these towns and the work that they inspire include
corporate responsibility, the relationship of labor and capital, workers reform movements,
technological advancement, the global marketplace, and the phenomenon of the factory town.
