Abstract:
While collaborating on events and projects is a relatively common occurrence, there is often a
perceived deficient of successful partnering among community organizations within Savannah. Whether it
is bringing two organizations that share common goals together, or multiple groups interested in a similar
demographic for different reasons. The act of bringing diverse disciplines and cultures together to explore
connections for an “explosion of extraordinary ideas” has been termed the Medici Effect by Frans Johansson
(2006:3). This intersection of differences “represents a place that drastically increases the chances for
unusual combinations to occur.” (Johansson 2006:20) The knowledge, resources, and key assets of existing
organizations and community leaders in any one region are instrumental to the success or failure of new
community initiatives. The aim of this study is to provide an in depth exploration of the influencers,
conditions, and relationships between organizations that impact community collaboration, specifically on
projects and events in Savannah, Georgia.
