Abstract:
Scholarship on Rock Hudson’s celebrity has been restricted to a queer perspective, ignoring the
rest of Hudson’s star import. In this paper, I will argue for a revised understanding of Hudson’s
stardom, offering evidence of his industrial and psychological narratives as other possible
frameworks of examination. I will use the production and reception of Hudson’s performance in
Seconds as a means of exploring both of these narratives.
