Abstract:
This thesis will focus on the cinematic elements common in non-linear narratives
and how they are used to entice the audience by withholding information and creating a
dreamlike state open to emotional interpretation. I will examine successful scenes from
Breathless, Mirror, The Conformist, and Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind.
Finally I will assess my own use of non-linear cinematic elements in my thesis film
Inching Towards Bethlehem.
