Abstract:
TEA is a fully designed eBook that unfolds via text, photography, and video. The book showcases the various ways, through text and image, that an author can tell a story in the digital age. TEA focuses on the intersection of technology and sexuality, and examines the ways in which the internet and social media shaped the author’s understanding of his sexuality. The academic section of the thesis breaks down the theoretical and artistic influences to TEA— notably David Halperin’s concept of gay subjectivity, and visual artists (such as photographers Nan Goldin and Cindy Sherman) who cultivate a persona through their work. The author puts forth a working process called “The Method” that explains how to write clear, concise, and moving prose, and calls for other authors to use new and experimental media in their work. The academic section also includes a brief plan on how the author plans to use TEA to advance professionally.
