Abstract:
This thesis consists of a collection of personal essays that draws on my experiences of living in
two different countries, two different cultures. Each essay takes fragments of the memories of
past experiences and impressions and through a narrative journey merges them into a meaningful
new.
The thesis also examines the creative writing process itself by a visual component, rendering the
fragments—mental images, phrases, word pictures, cognitive and sensual clusters—through
experiments in typography. These pages provide a glimpse at the writing process on the
subconscious level, where inspiration emerges and meaning gets formed before the actual
writing takes place.
