Abstract:
Today’s technology—computers, the Internet, social media—has become a means of inciting people to political action, to support their efforts towards a better future. This was demonstrated throughout the Arab Spring, and specifically in Tahrir Square. Internet and social media technology made the communication faster and helped this artwork to spreads. Arab Spring is a great example of how art and technology work together to inspire and support revolutions in the Arab world. Posters and political cartoons played a big role in inspiring people to start their revolutions in the Middle East. Facebook made these cartoons available for extraordinary numbers of people, especially the youth, and moved them to protest in the streets. Graffiti art started to be popular in the Middle East at the start of the revolution. Graffiti has a big impact on people, inspiring them to continue their revolution. All in all, art is not only for decoration or to record events that already happened—art, illustration and technology are being used as a tool to make a change.
