Abstract:
This thesis explores the relationship between the city street and the activity taking place in the urban block.
Through the investigation of how people interact in these environments. it is made apparent that the street is void
of a strong public presence. and in turn. the storefront has taken over the block. This creates a linear wall of
consumer driven interests. The city street must be reclaimed as part of the public domain and bleed into the
block to break down barriers and bring people together within a healthier framework of consumerism.
