Abstract:
This thesis presents a versatile process paradigm to be used in optimizing rig
mutability for animated transformation of the physical anatomy of computer-generated
characters. The transformations produced by The Mill, Framestore, and Industrial Light
and Magic, will be discussed as to their solutions in the introduction. An overview of
anatomy and its importance to rigging, specifically the connections of bones, has been
provided in anatomy and rigging. A description, with figures, presenting key points of
the process of creating a morphologic rig and deformations has been covered in the
description of the process of creating a morphologic rig and mesh. Logical future
developments for the morphologic process paradigm have been discussed and a
recorded process overview on the creation of a morphologic rig has been provided as a
visual aid.
