Abstract:
In this collection of essays I explore women’s roles and representations within
Christianity and the Bible through a feminist lens. Using literary, historical and Scriptural
scholarship as a guide, I trace today’s need for a feminist faith back to women’s reputations
within early patristic theology. Specifically, my work explores three major themes: 1) gender
roles and archetypes in the Bible; 2) misogyny within church practice; and 3) the fight for a
feminist faith. Inspired by their powerful stories, it is my hope that my work contributes to new
understandings of the fascinating women of the Bible, and most importantly, to the revelatory
nature of our loving, liberating, feminist God.
