Detail View: Artists' Book Collection: Interior Landscape

Title:
Interior Landscape
Creator:
Harris, Lyall F.
Description:
Leporello structure housed in a slipcase. Paper label attached to debossed area on the front cover of the book. Paper label with title attached to debossed area on slipcase. Paper used to line the inside of the slipcase is covered with reproduced handwriting. Artist's statement: "Interior Landscape began as a response to Sylvia Plath's journal entries on the subjects of writing and motherhood. As an artist-mother myself, I have been looking at the inherent difficulties in this dual role, or, rather, in striving for excellence as both of these things - artist and mother - contemporaneously. Interior Landscape grew to encompass not just Plath's story, but artist-mothers everywhere who seek to accomplish but who wrestle with myriad infringements on their thinking and doing." Handwritten colophon on inside of pages: "This edition was developed and completed in 2011. Mixed media linoleum cut images [of trees and houses] with slight variations were made on Folio Vellum printmaking paper. Goudy Old Style digital type was printed from polymer plates and handwritten text was digitally reproduced. Italic excerpts are from Plath's poems Child and The Munich Mannequins, both written on January 28, 1963."
