Extraordinary Popular Delusions & the Madness of Crows: A Study of Cause & Effect
Creator:
Hoppmann, Mark
Description:
Follows an unlikely hero - the small tented figure of a crow - through some pretty astonishing adventures in time and place. Housed in a large wooden box with rusty hinges. The book has 128 pages (4 signatures of 16 leaves or 32 pages) containing 117 digital prints from Hoppmann's original illustrations of India Ink, Conte Crayons, graphite, and color pencil. Printed on 90 pound Canson Classic Cream drawing paper. Hand deckled. The binding of each book and the box containing each book are unique. Artist's statement: "A bound collection of over 117 original illustrations celebrating the enigmatic crow and made possible by a TAIP grant from the Tacoma Art Commission. The Book of Kells, and the work of William Morris at Kelmscott Press, amongst other sources inspired this body of work. Available in two sizes each in a limited edition of only 50, each handmade book and accompanying wooden box are made using different materials and with varying binding techniques including Coptic, post, long stitch and many others. The intent is that no two books or boxes are alike."
