An Idle Thought: Laboriously Presented
Creator:
Stockwell, Ross
Description:
Paper strip pop-ups presented in a small codex book. Paper-covered boards with cloth spine. Edition of 20. Artist's statement: "This book employs the same device as The Term [an earlier artists' book by Stockwell] (a ribbon that runs from page to page) but it has a different plot. A strip of paper, running straight and true ... stumbles and bends and goes crooked ... until, at last, it gets back on track. Note: This cliché (straight=good, bent=problematic) is first used cliché fashion to illustrate an Idle Thought, and is then examined, on the last page, as a cliché."
