Abstract:
|
Understanding culture and the social dynamics at the heart of sociocultural change is the basis upon
which this thesis proposes - a form of cultural advocacy through communication media. The different
systems of knowledge, which glue culture together, produce “grand narratives” that guide members of
culture toward happiness and well-being. The sensate system of knowledge that has established the
contemporary twenty-first century western culture is in crisis and lacks the intellectual resources
necessary to guide members of culture. As culture struggles to define a general theory of values and a
“grand narrative,” an intervention is necessary. Communication media shape the context for dialogue and
there must be cultural advocates to participate in this dialogue to reveal knowledge for composing a
robust “grand narrative” capable of cultivating human flourishing.
