“Within the unconventionally grotesque and eerie illustrations, some illustrations evoke warmth. The purpose of my research is to examine how whimsical narrative art can evoke emotions such as empathy, belonging, and imagination in the audience. Empathy-related responses to art are influenced by a variety of factors, including the artist's intentions, the viewer's personal experiences, and the artwork's context. A whimsical narrative illustration can stimulate empathy in the audience by creating a connection and familiarity with the characters and the story. Psychological factors, such as emotion and imagination, can explain why whimsical art elicits empathy.” –Abstract
