Abstract:
“This thesis will begin exploring the terms and purposes of comedic timing along with examples from Charlie Chaplin that have influenced the Warner Bros. cartoons. From there, Tex Avery and Bob Clampett will be discussed in terms of how they have mastered comedic timing along with a case study of Chuck Jones’ style in timing and character designs. This will be tied to contemporary 2D animation where the Warner Bros. cartoons have influenced television shows from the 90’s along with how comedic timing is important in improving animated works. The visual component will demonstrate how comedic timing can be applied to today’s animation.” --Abstract Keywords: comedic timing, slapstick comedy, Warner Bros. Cartoons, pacing, anticipation in timing, exposure sheets.
