"This paper examines Korean director Park Chan-wook's films Old Boy and Joint Security Area. It focuses on how Park Chan-wook's shot design successfully establishes and expresses a visual language of complex feelings and nuanced human emotion. It also analyzes how Park Chan-wook utilizes his role as director to create films that explore themes of human vulnerability and struggle whilst presenting tales of sensational gore and violence. This paper also demonstrates how Park Chan-wook's movie Joint Security Area influenced and informed the creation of the thesis film Stealing Fire." --Abstract
