Abstract:
With the advent of Google Street View the ability to travel and explore foreign and familiar landscapes has become more accessible. Google Street View has provided a vast database of images allowing for a new way to interact with the landscape. Artists are now able to explore and exploit Google Street View’s depictions of an urbanized, digital landscape. By looking at significant points in photographic landscape history we can chart a path forward exploring new ways to experience the land. By employing Roland Barthes‘ theory of punctum, LF Home provides a different interpretation of the sublime; a personal sublime when confronted by a familiar landscape. The exhibition LF Home, through the photographic image and text, explores our relationship with the virtual landscape based on personal experience, memory, and an individualistic sublime.
