Abstract:
"This thesis will take a heuristic approach through research, and analysis of mythology and history in order to define and understand American identity. American Identity has always been an ambiguous term that could mean anything from independence to oppression. Much of the United States' history is defined by our oppression of minority, but it is also defined by those who stood up and demanded civil liberty and equality. Mythology is an important ancillary to human existence, and has been used to pass on values, understanding, and rules of narrative that we still use today. This paper will establish a link between mythology, empathy, and American history, in order to create a methodology for developing American fiction and character art." --Abstract
