Abstract:
|
"The evolutionary process of advertising underwear for men has a stark contrast to the
progression of advertising for women's underwear. Though much research has been presented that provides an understanding of how women have been oversexualized throughout history, there is little literature referencing the oversexualization of men, mainly regarding underwear advertising. This evolving area of study focusing on sexualized media identifies the key factors that have contributed to the mass production of oversexualized depictions of male bodies in underwear advertising in the United States. Special attention is paid to the black male body as a subject of exploitation through the use of erotic fantasy. It is necessary to now look deeply at how this aggressive evolution of the male and female gaze, fetishism, and eroticism have molded male underwear advertising, in the United States, into what consumers experience today." --Abstract
