Abstract:
"The purpose of this thesis is to discuss the revival of 2D animation over live action for the purpose of a fresh aesthetic in children’s shows, especially kid’s educational shows. The visual of 2D over live action has been mostly used in feature length films. 2D over live action can be seen in children’s animated shorts, but rarely as the main aesthetic of a show. For children’s shows Toon Boom puppet animation is a key tool in making 2D production faster and continues to be one of the top industry tools used today. By researching how Toon Boom and other modern applications can be used to create the desired aesthetic as well as researching examples of animations that work within this realm, this thesis will show how 2D animation over live action footage can be revived for children’s entertainment."
