Abstract:
|
Firsthand knowledge of food production is abstracted and mythologized to conceal synthetic ingredients. Entertainment and taste are emphasized instead of nutrition and health in the food advertisements marketed toward children. This has led to a global epidemic of obesity, diabetes and learning disabilities.

Abstract:
|
My counterfeit packaging designs function similar to the myth of the Trojan horse. The parodied advertisements provide additional nutritional information for consumers. My work critiques the food industry site specifically from within the walls of grocery stores, not secondhand from a gallery or nutrition journal. I mass-produce and print glossy magazine page inserts, tiny product stickers, posters, and even whole packages that are then drop-lifted into stores by activists internationally. The educational facts and instructions I have included in the parodied adverts raise awareness and empower
consumers by asking them to question the origins of the food they purchase. My work is an intervention.
