Abstract:
This thesis explores the possibilities of public art and historic preservation in city and neighborhood development by looking at four different case studies throughout the United States that have capitalized on this combination. From these case studies five different themes emerge that outline the benefits of incorporating both public art and historic preservation in community development. Using the information gathered from each case study and the five themes an argument is made for the development of a similar program in the city of Savannah, Georgia. Four proposals are presented to incorporate a new combination of public art and historic preservation into city and community planning and development.
