"This research documents and analyzes critical events in the history of the field of Motion Graphic Design in Arabic countries as well as its development. It looks at the evolution of Arabic visual communication as language and art then to the age of digital technology. Even though Arabic Motion Graphics have gone through vast changes that contributed to its development, the field is broad and growing dramatically, and the academic Arabic content about the field is limited. There is a lack of historical research and short films and animation documentation. The research analyzes turning points in the history of related fields such as graphics, cinema, and television that revolutionized Arabian Motion Graphics. The research outline begins with an introduction explaining the concept of design and production and defines Motion Graphics. The research is divided into two main parts. In the first part: from 618 to 1900 AD 'The Islamic Period', I study of the Islamic arts made by Arabic designers. This part focuses on the history of Graphic Design. It analyzes the creative fields that the Arabian artist thrived in; such as Arabic calligraphy, Islamic decoration, and prints. This first part is based on the analysis of academic research, references, and documentaries. In the second part: from 1900 to the 21st century 'The Technology Phase', I start with introducing Western cinema and Western motion graphics movements. Then I evaluate the beginnings and developments of Arabian Cinema, and I analyze how Arabian Motion Graphics emerged from Graphic Design and Cinema. In this part I start where former researchers ended. I conducted interviews with contemporary designers and visited Arabian media institutions and studios. I also collected and analyzed Arabian title sequences as the first experimental form of Arabic motion graphics. I divided the development of the field into three phases: Typography, Design, and New Technology. In addition, I highlight the factors affecting the developments of Arabian Motion Graphics and contemporary Arabic designers and producers.
The paper ends with a summary of the research results including the reasons for the delay of the development of the field in the region, despite today’s advanced technology. Finally, the research provides recommendations for Arabic researchers, designers, and specialists in the field of Arabian Motion Graphics."
