Abstract:
"Global warming is recently a major issue in the world because influences of climate changes increase beyond control. Many countries in the world suffer from the changes, and South Korea cannot avoid them. Specifically, Daegu Metropolitan City, one of the fourth biggest cities in South Korea, is vulnerable to the climate changes because of the geographical and topographical characteristic. It is located in a basin surrounded on all sides by mountains. This unique feature accelerates effects of climate changes on Daegu Metropolitan City by rising in the temperature. The increasing temperature changes the plantation pattern of Korea and threatens food security such as plant diseases and insects. Moreover, major crops in the cities move northwards. In the future, food systems in Korea will change, losing and gaining agricultural products. These changes will impact on human life because eating is important to humans. Thus, Daegu needs enough preparations for the potential damages. Adaptation for the changing agriculture has been happening, but it was not enough. We need a different approach to agriculture to adapt to climate changes and not to make grobal warming worse. Vertical farming can monitor and control the levels of air, water and nutrition to provide optimum growing requirements; therefore, it can be established in any climatic region globally. Moreover, environmentally-friendly agricultural system such as recycling water can help global warming reduce. Thus, vertical farming will provide comprehensive food supplies in Deagu Metropolitan City in Korea."
