Abstract:

The concept of this thesis is to conceptualize and render the element of fire into a sound
effects library through the process of field recording. This thesis will demonstrate the roles and
parameters of preproduction, production, and postproduction for field recording and sound
effects gathering. This writer does not attempt to cover every possible sound that can be created
with fire, but simply to create a small collection of sound effects that are unique to an individual
field recordist’s sound library.
