Abstract: 
The motion picture screenplay is divided into sequences, each sequences contains a number of scenes. Each scene, from the point of view of illumination, which consists of sets, props, and people. Mariner’s Revenge is a story about Sam and his revenge against the man who destroyed his life. Vince is partner up with Sam’s widow mother Martha. He gave away the consumption and gamble away all her fortune. He left Sam and Martha homeless, destroying Martha. She ends up dying. Sam spends his entire life seeking revenge on Vince. The ironic thing is at the end when he finally finds Vince and he is able to get his revenge, then he finds himself trapped in the stomach of a whale. This paper is an exploration of set lighting in filmmaking and the application of these practices in Mariner’s Revenge – a M.F.A thesis films that I made as cinematographer in 2014.
