Abstract:
Web series give independent content creators opportunities to connect their concepts to a global market. The competition is high as the web is cluttered with content all vying for web viewer’s short attention spans. If content creators are able to market their shows successfully though social media, then they are more likely to succeed by engaging their niche marketing. My thesis, Burning Broccoli, is an eleven episode web series that explores the dynamics of Christian faith and fellowship by modernizing the story of Moses. As my concept can be seen as controversial, the web is a suitable place for the series because web series often explore underrepresented topics outside of mainstream television content. This thesis will explore creating niche web programming while surveying the history of web series, ideas of success, and social media marketing in both faith based and mainstream content.
