In a time of global economic crisis, emerging markets have become increasingly
important to the growth of the luxury sector. Among these new developing economies,
South Africa has recently proved to be a strong contender for luxury brands around the
world. In response to a growing interest in the potential of the South African market, this
thesis provides an in-depth exploration of South Africa as luxury’s new frontier, also
highlighting the various opportunities that are available within this challenging, yet
lucrative economy.
