Abstract:
This thesis focuses on how interior design could increase social interaction to foster a stronger sense of community in non-intentional communities, such as gated subdivisions. This study also explores intentional communities, such as cohousing, to understand residents’ relationships and practices. Furthermore, this thesis investigates a gated subdivision clubhouse, how residents use this space, and finally, how interior design can integrate childcare into the clubhouse to improve the sense of community of residents in gated subdivisions.
