Abstract:

This
thesis
explores
the
intersection
where
one
civilian’s
life
meets
that
of
a
United
States
Marine.
I
found
that
a
near-lifelong
friendship
with
a
career
Marine
provides
a
rich
access
point
into
learning
about
the
military
and
its
members.
I
also
found
that
you
can’t
really
look
at
the
military
without
taking
a
look
at
yourself.
I
wrote
these
essays
to
capture
a
sense
of
this
ongoing
experience.
My
hope
is
that
these
essays
show
the
reader
that
life
can
look
quite
different
when
seen
through
the
filter
of
the
USMC.
