Small round, orange shaped booklet with information about travel on the Savannah Line of the Ocean Steamship Company and mentioning connections with the Central of Georgia Railway and the Savannah Florida and Western Railway. On the last page is an advertisement for the DeSoto Hotel, completed in 1890. The pamphlet is printed in the interior in black and red ink and has color covers.
The Ocean Steamship Company was chartered in 1872 to carry passengers and freight, chiefly cotton, from Georgia and Alabama to New York and Boston. It was a subsidiary of the Central of Georgia Railway, and the rail link up was critical to its success At the time, it was the only coastwise steamship company to be headquartered in the South. The Savannah Line, as it was called, was a major trade and travel link between Georgia and the North for seventy years. The Savannah Line owned 18 passenger and freight steamers that were considered among the best to be found on the East Coast. The line had three main routes: Savannah-Boston-New York, Savannah-Philadelphia, and Savannah-Fernandina-Jacksonville.
