Introduced in 1929, the Chanel Clutch is an infamous piece of fashion history designed by founder Coco Chanel. When Coco became tired of having to carry her handbag in her arms, she thought to add thin straps which were inspired by soldier’s bags. By doubling this thin chain she used, Coco created a strap that was reliable enough to make her design hands-free. And to give the bag shape and volume? Coco used a running stitch sewed in a quilted pattern, reportedly inspired by a cushion in her Paris apartment. This pattern was enhanced by the finely-grained nature of lambskin, making it the ideal material for the Chanel Clutch.
