Title:
Fountain in Forsyth Park
Creator:
Jones, Myrtle
Description:
The image is from a scan of a slide from Myrtle Jones Collection, MS 002. The slide was used in the publication of her book, A Savannah Experience: an artistic expression of my life in Savannah, published in 1995. The slide depicts a watercolor painting of the Forsyth Park fountain painted in 1965.
The fountain was added to Forsyth Park in 1858 and is constructed of cast iron. There are similar fountains in Peru and New York. All three fountains are based on the design for the fountain in the Place de la Concorde in Paris. Over the years the fountain suffered damage and was completely restored in 1988.
